Transparent About Packaging

"Great quality lantern. Received swiftly and very well packaged. It gives a lovely glow and makes the place feel really homely. I'll be adding some more to it very soon!"

Our stars are made in India and traditionally we have sold them at Christmas markets and festivals, direct to the public with minimal - zero packaging required.

The stars are made from natural materials and need to be protected in transit. So trading online requires new solutions.  We are currently working in partnership with a British university to develop the most sustainable way to do this, with the objective of zero waste. Watch this space.

Your stars are packaged in the following way:

Certain stars designs have "tip protectors". These are made by hand from paper offcuts.

A 120 micron bio-degradeable and fully recyclable wrapper made from recycled plastic protects the stars from moisture damage in transit. This is NOT single use and should be kept to store the star in when not in use.

2 cut pieces of cardboard are folded around the star or stars to create a box, and taped with paper tape. The box should also be retained for future storage of the star, or can be fully recycled.

The cardboard comes from an FSC approved and sustainable source. We use kraft liners for the external face to provide strength and durability and fully recycled paper for the fluting and internal liners. Our cardboard is 100% recyclable. See FSC certificate here.

The fulfilment house then allocates an outer bag determined by the courier provider. All couriers are now adopting sustainable outer shipping bags.

For environmental reasons we do not offer the option of extra gift wrapping. This doesn’t mean they don’t arrive in an enticing way – we have great reviews for our packaging from our customers. What it means it that we choose not to offer extra ribbons and bows – the hand-produced stars themselves are lovely enough.  Our stars are packed carefully, well, functionally, with full instructions and using minimal materials. We know that the best gift we can give each other is a more sustainable future.

We welcome constructive feedback and ideas on all things packaging. What is the least we need to do? What do you want to see? hello@paperstarlights.com
