Partying Under the Stars: Paper Starlights X Charity Shop DJ

Don't you wonder sometimes
About sound and vision?

Here at Paper Starlights we’re all about bringing people together. We’ve always believed that a shared visual experience gets people talking, creates happy sociable places - and ultimately builds community through a shared ownership of space. And, for us, as producers of lighting products, it’s always been about the visuals.

But what about if you added sound to the vision?

With a shared background producing for UK music festivals and community events, it was only a matter of time before Paper Starlights joined forces with the eclectic DJ collective Charity Shop DJ. In fact, we’ve been collaborating since 2006 – creating large scale community parties, and hosting festival stages together.

Originally a wandering DJ with a wind-up gramophone recycling records from UK charity shops, Charity Shop DJ quickly became an ensemble of DJs and artists with a simple unifying manifesto: that no matter who we are, or where we’re from, music can bring us together. Music to the ears of us all at Paper Starlights.

 Holding a Vinyl Record

Charity Shop DJ have performed at London’s Royal Festival Hall, the Southbank’s Alchemy Festival, the Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, WOMAD, and Vintage Festivals.  Further collaborations with museums, universities, and the British Council have led to tours of India, Syria, and Australia, as well as across the UK. In 2008 Charity Shop DJ became the first DJ to play the UK Houses of Parliament, sponsored by Arts Council England.

In 2012 the teams behind Paper Starlights and Charity Shop DJ co-produced the closing event for the Paralympic Games in the East Midlands UK. Working with London based Electric Pedals , the event broke new ground in the powering of a large scale public event using bicycle power. Check it out here : The Pedal Powered Party - YouTube

This May the teams will once again take to the same stage – this time at the renowned Urban Village Fete, curated by Hemingway Design, back at its spiritual home on Greenwich Peninsula after a 2-year break. And we can’t wait to see what this further collaboration will bring!
