Paper stars have long been part of celebrations of light in different places and cultures. Pinning down one single origin is difficult, and perhaps that is part of their appeal. Wherever they appear, stars have a way of bringing people together around warmth, welcome and celebration.

Our Paper Starlights are handmade in India by skilled makers using traditional paper craft techniques. Across India, paper stars can be seen during celebrations including Diwali and Christmas, glowing in homes, streets and gathering places.

Star traditions also appear across Europe and beyond. In Scandinavia and parts of central Europe, illuminated stars are closely associated with Advent and the darker winter months. Over the years, customers have shared their own memories of paper stars from Ireland, Turkey, Egypt, China, Nepal and Laos.

These stories do not point to one neat beginning. Instead, they show how widely the simple shape of a star has been used to express light, hope and festivity.

As the nights draw in, we light windows, gather around tables and find ways to make the darker months feel warmer. A glowing paper star is a small part of that tradition, and one we are proud to keep sharing.
