A bridal catwalk is more than a stage, it’s a statement. Whether you’re exhibiting at a wedding fair or producing a fashion-led runway show, styling the space with light can turn a standard catwalk into a magical, camera-ready experience.
At Paper Starlights, we’ve worked with stylists, show producers, and wedding planners for over 25 years. Our handmade paper stars have lit up venues from boutique hotels to fashion catwalks and editorial shoots. Here's how to make them shine in your next event.
Why Use Paper Starlights on a Catwalk?
-
Lightweight & easy to hang — ideal for temporary installations
-
Flat-pack & reusable — easy to transport to wedding fairs or shows
-
Photogenic & high impact — stars photograph beautifully under ambient or spotlight lighting
-
Atmospheric — they add texture, movement, and visual interest without stealing focus from the bridalwear
Step 1: Plan Your Layout
✨ How many stars do I need?
Runway Length | Suggested Star Count |
---|---|
4–5 metres | 6–10 stars per row |
6–8 metres | 10–16 stars per row |
9–12 metres | 16–24 stars per row |
13+ metres | 25+ stars per row |
💡 Pro Tip: Use an odd number of stars for a more balanced visual rhythm. Cluster more densely around entrances or key focal points (e.g. mid-runway, photo zones).
Step 2: Layer Star Sizes for Depth
To create dynamic visuals — especially in photographs — we recommend layering sizes:
Suggested Mix:
-
Large stars (87cm): Hang high and centred above the runway
-
Medium stars (60cm): Stagger at medium height to fill the space
-
Small stars (42cm): Accent side views, entryways, or frame arches
Use a mix of drops, angles, and spacing for a more organic and immersive atmosphere.
Step 3: Light It Right
Lighting makes the difference between beautiful and breathtaking. Here’s how to get it right:
Festoon Lighting
-
Perfect for stringing above or parallel to the runway
-
Compatible with Paper Starlights (must be long drop festoon only)
-
Choose warm white LED bulbs (non-heat emitting)
Secure festoon lights to a truss or ceiling rig and attach stars at each bulb or in between.
Spider Pendant Lights
A flexible, elegant option for indoor or stage-based setups, especially when you want multiple stars dropping from a single ceiling point.
-
Ideal for clustered displays or symmetric drops along the catwalk
-
Use spider pendants with fabric cords for a premium, styled finish
-
Choose long drop lengths (90–150 cm) to create dramatic overhead layers
Mount the pendant base centrally and let individual cords fan out along the catwalk or display area. Attach stars to each drop point.
💡 Tip: Use different cord lengths or attach some stars lower than others to create movement and vertical interest in photos.
Step 4: Choose a Wedding-Ready Colour Palette
Some of our favourite combinations for bridal shows:
-
Whites & Creams – Classic and elegant
-
Soft Metallics – Golds and bronzes for warmth
-
Night Sky Tones – Navy or deep plum for dramatic evening looks
Choose a palette that complements the bridalwear, not competes with it.
Step 5: Think Like a Photographer
Stars should not only impress in person — they should elevate every photo.
-
Keep the overhead line clean or intentionally asymmetrical
-
Allow for negative space above and below models for strong framing
-
Place stars strategically at runway entry points for hero shots
