Events Under the Stars at Leicester Cathedral: Winter 2026

This winter, Light of Stars will become more than an installation at Leicester Cathedral. It will provide the setting for a whole season of experiences, gathered together as Events Under the Stars.

Created by Paper Starlights as the programming strand of Light of Stars, Events Under the Stars explores what can happen once an illuminated installation is in place for a season. Rather than creating a separate visual environment for every event, the stars become a shared setting for many different reasons to gather.

Explore the Events Under the Stars programme.

One installation, many ways to experience it

At Leicester Cathedral, the winter 2026 programme brings together concerts and live music, talks and conversations, heritage experiences, hospitality, Christmas activity, worship and moments of reflection. The events are different, but the setting connects them.

Someone might first encounter Light of Stars during an ordinary daytime visit, then return for a concert, a late opening or a Christmas event. Another visitor may experience the installation through worship, heritage or quiet reflection. The idea is not to make those experiences the same, but to give them a visual thread across the season.

That approach reflects a long-standing idea behind Paper Starlights: different people can gather beneath the same stars for very different reasons.

Light of Stars at Leicester Cathedral

Leicester Cathedral is the first venue to build a full Events Under the Stars programme around the installation. Light of Stars has been developed for the Cathedral as a working building, taking into account its architecture, everyday visiting, worship and wider cultural programme.

The project follows our 2024/25 installation at Bath Abbey, where the stars remained in place through Advent and into the New Year while the life of the Abbey continued beneath them.

You can read more about the installation itself on the Light of Stars Leicester Cathedral project page.

See what is happening under the stars

We have created a dedicated Events Under the Stars website to bring the Leicester season together in one place. It gives visitors an overview of what is coming up and links each event back to the official organiser for final details.

Leicester Cathedral remains the organiser and ticketing authority for its events. Event times, prices, availability, access information and programme details can change, so visitors should always check the Cathedral's official information before travelling or booking.

For the Cathedral's own Light of Stars information and programme, visit Leicester Cathedral.

For us, Events Under the Stars is also a glimpse of what Light of Stars can make possible for other cathedrals, heritage spaces and public buildings: one memorable installation, used in different ways across a whole season.
